The U.S. Embassy provided $50,000 in technical assistance to the Center for Temporary Placement of Minors within the Ministry of Interior of the Government of Moldova (GOM). As part of this assistance package, the U.S. Embassy purchased a minibus, a security video monitoring system, and installed window grills and a barrier gate at the entrance of the building housing the Center.
At the ceremony participated the Ambassador of the United States, Asif Chaudhry, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Victor Catan, chief of units of the ministry.
In the speech of the US Ambasador in the Republic of Moldova, Asif Chaudhry, he reiterated US commitment to support further governments efforts of the Republic of Moldova in social activities and he expressed satisfaction on the cooperation between the Embassy and Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"This institution has an important role in the connections that exist between our countries. We are aware that children are most important wealth of the nations"stressed the Ambassador.
In this regard, Victor Catan thanked U.S. government for participation in order to create favorable conditions for children, emphasizing that the event is a continuous collaboration with the Embassy.
"U.S. is an important partner in developing and promoting educational values and together we will try to do more for our children"concluded the minister.
The institution is a subdivision of Chisinau General Police Station. The Center for Temporary Placement of Minors in Chisinau provides a variety of services to some of Moldova's most vulnerable children. Some of these services include reuniting children with their parents, providing full-time education to children housed at the Center, counseling and caring for children who might otherwise be out on the streets.
In addition to the Center in Chisinau, which can accommodate about 30 children, there are 27 smaller centers, capable of housing up to 10 children each, operate in several municipalities.
