On 9 June 2010, a Police Matters Coordination and Information Sharing Meeting was held with representatives of international donor organisations and embassies. The event was led by the Minister of Internal Affairs, H.E. Victor Catan.
The Minister stressed the importance of the event and appreciated the contribution by the participants in support of the Ministry’s reform initiatives.
Minister Catan highly appreciated the cooperation with international partners in ensuring the rule of law, combating organised crime, and provision of expertise in revising national legislation in line with European standards.
The meeting was informed about the Ministry’s concept document on police reform which was recently submitted to the Government for consideration. In addition, it was mentioned about the Ministry’s initiative to elaborate a comprehensive Road Map which will contribute to an efficient implementation of the ongoing police reforms.
The representatives emphasised the need for coordination of donor support and praised the Ministry for organising this event. These meetings will be organised on a regular monthly basis or as required.
It was underlined that all programming of international donor assistance will be done in coordination with the State Chancellery’s office.
Minister Catan concluded that this kind of meetings is essential for establishing a reliable partnership and strengthening the cooperation with international donor organisations. He expressed hope that the assistance will continue and increase in support of the Ministry’s reform measures aimed at creating a modern police service in Moldova in line with European standards and best practices.
