The Minister of Internal Affairs considers as a priority combating trafficking of human beings.

On January 31, within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, the Minister Alexei Roibu had a meeting with Mr. Marcus Micheli, Deputy Head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Moldova, Mr. Gregory M. Winstead, Head of Political and Economic Unit and Mr Jonathan Hayes, political-economic officer of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova.

During the meeting, Mr. Alexei Roibu highly appreciated the cooperation between the Ministry and the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau and called for a continuing and increasing of collaboration for institutional reforms of the MIA.

The Minister thanked for support of attaches of U.S. Embassy in Moldova, by implementing a series of projects designed to enhance capabilities to counter all forms of crime, particularly trafficking in human beings.

Mr. Roibu underlined that the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons becomes transparent and oriented to the needs of citizens, and in case of employee involvement in illegal business center, will apply to them, as required by law, the harsh measures of punishment.
During the meetind, Mr. Marcus Micheli said that the U.S. Embassy considers good work done with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, thanks for effective cooperation in many important cases.
The U.S. diplomat spoke about the growing U.S. support for law enforcement, especially for the Moldovan police, noting that this is happened because the American partner belief that there is a credible partner.

However, Mr. Micheli came with proposals to improve the current situation in the issue of combating trafficking in persons, noting that the U.S. Embassy will support such multilateral activities.

At the end of the meeting both officials expressed their conviction that further cooperation of the institutions will result in a pragmatic and dynamic growth, which will contribute to capacity building in combating human trafficking of MIA .
