Today, Mr. Alexei Roibu, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, had a meeting with Ms Cecilia MALMSTROM, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, which arranged a visit to Moldova during the presentation of the Action Plan on liberalization of visa regime between Republic of Moldova-EU. The deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, Mrs. Natalia Gherman attended the meeting, where the European official was informed in details about the pace of reforms initiated in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the problems that are facing the institution at this stage, efforts in combating organized crime and its related crimes such as drug trafficking, illegal migration and human trafficking. Mrs. Cecilia MALMSTROM underlined her satisfaction for active participation in the agreements signed with EU Member States, in joint operations documentation of the EU criminal elements, especially where the Moldovan Diaspora is large, ensuring an effective exchange of operational information with European partners and where international activities are also involved in the relevant segment governing human rights, combating transnational organized crime, human trafficking, terrorism, drug trafficking, weapons and ammunition.
The minister reiterated the institution's desire to extend partnership with EUROPOL, in signing with this prestigious organization the operational agreement with European police and including the Republic of Moldova in the list of priorities of Europol for 2011. The European official has assured the minister of total trust and support from the European Union, expressing the conviction that the reforms launched by the present government will contribute to strengthening the democracy in Moldova and will improve the standards life for all citizens.
The European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Mrs. Cecilia MALMSTROM plans to visit on 25 January, the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons and the Center for Temporary Placement of Foreigners.
