The Republic of Moldova and the European Union are stepping up their joint response to drug trafficking at a time when synthetic drugs, new psychoactive substances and online distribution channels are rapidly reshaping the illicit drug market.

The Republic of Moldova is strengthening its capacity to prevent and address drug-related challenges through closer cooperation with the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA).

Firefighters from Moldova’s Ground Forest Fire Fighting Team (GFFFV-MD) have returned home following a pre-positioning mission in the Hellenic Republic, where they were deployed from July 14 to August 15, 2026 under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. On August 17, the team was welcomed and honored at a dedicated ceremony.

Moldova is taking steps to align its national framework with the European Prüm II mechanism, enabling faster and more effective exchanges of police data with European authorities on wanted persons and property and identification of persons involved in cross-border crimes. To this end, the Government has approved a draft law on international police cooperation.

The Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany continue to strengthen their partnership in strategic areas, including border security, migration management, and institutional preparedness for European integration.
