The Women, Peace and Security Agenda is a global framework established by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 1325 in 2000. It acknowledges the vital role of women in preventing and resolving conflicts, participating in peace processes, contributing to post-conflict reconstruction, and strengthening security. The WPS Agenda advocates for the full, equal and meaningful participation of women at all levels of decision-making, their protection from violence, the safeguarding of their fundamental rights, and the integration of gender perspectives into security policies and actions. By implementing this Agenda, states commit to building safer, more inclusive and more resilient societies, where women’s contributions are recognized as essential to achieving sustainable peace.
