The reforms and progress of Moldova on its European path were at the center of discussions during the Conference “Enlargement Report 2025: Moldova’s Progress and Future Priorities.” The event brought together the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, members of the Executive and Parliament, experts, and civil society representatives.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has recorded progress in border security, public safety, and migration management. Border management has been strengthened through modern technologies and close cooperation with European partners, while the migration and asylum system has been updated to ensure better protection for vulnerable persons and improved conditions for refugees.
“Moldova is proving to be a trustworthy partner on the path of European integration”, stated the Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
The fight against human trafficking has been reinforced through legislative amendments and partnerships with Europol and the private sector, creating effective mechanisms for prevention, identification, and assistance, while enhancing criminal justice responses. The efforts against organized crime and money laundering have been strengthened through the establishment of a specialized unit within the Prosecutor General’s Office and by updating legislation in line with international standards.
In the area of cybercrime, new regulations have been adopted to enable the swift blocking of illegal websites, while the reporting platform for cybercrimes and the cyber investigation laboratory support the effective resolution of complex cases.
The National Border Management Program 2026 - 2030 aims to modernize infrastructure, digitalize information exchange, and strengthen cooperation with the EU and neighboring countries. Advanced technological equipment and the expansion of biometric control ensure both security and smooth border traffic.
At the same time, modernization efforts are underway at border crossing points, alongside the construction of new Border Police headquarters, to ensure the effective management of legal and irregular migration in line with European standards.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on adopting the National Program for Integrated State Border Management 2026 - 2030, in accordance with the European IBM (Integrated Border Management) methodology. The document will enhance capacities for managing legal and irregular migration and strengthen coordination and border management mechanisms.
The Ministry continues to expand cooperation with EU member states and European institutions through data and information exchange via the secure SIENA channel, joint risk analysis, and proactive use of European cooperation instruments.
In addition, actions are underway to fully operationalize the National Focal Point on Firearms, aimed at strengthening internal security and improving control over the circulation of weapons.
