11 November 2025 The reform of the criminal justice system and the development of mechanisms to combat corruption and organized crime were the main topics discussed during the meeting between Alexandru Bejan, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Venice Commission rapporteurs, who were on a working visit to Chișinău. The meeting focused on exchanging views regarding the draft law on the organization and operation of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime - an initiative that entails an integrated approach to investigating complex cases. The reform should ensure efficiency, integrity, and trust. It is a necessary step to strengthen the country’s capacity to respond swiftly and professionally to corruption and organized crime. The consultation with the Venice Commission guarantees that these transformations comply with the highest European standards”, stated Alexandru Bejan. The public discussions between national experts and the consultations with the Venice Commission ensure the continuity of investigations and the protection of complex cases during the institutional transition. The Council of Europe representatives commended the openness of the Moldovan authorities to cooperation and dialogue, emphasizing the importance of democratic reforms that uphold human rights and align with European values.
