Travelers crossing the borders of the Republic of Moldova, including Moldovan citizens entering or leaving the country through border crossing points, will now have access to clear and up-to-date information about the new travel rules for the Schengen area. This follows the launch of an information campaign by the Border Police.
The initiative aims to prepare the public for the introduction of the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will take effect on October 12, 2025, across all Schengen member states, including Romania.
Through this campaign, the Border Police will explain the new electronic procedures for recording entry and exit data, the use of biometric information (fingerprints and facial images), and practical ways travellers can help reduce waiting times at border crossings.
At border crossing points with Romania, Ukraine, and at Chișinău International Airport (Eugen Doga), border police officers are distributing information materials and offering direct guidance to travellers. The materials are available in both Romanian and Russian, ensuring that all categories of persons crossing the state border of the Republic of Moldova can easily understand the new rules.
The Border Police remains committed to ensuring that every traveller is well-informed and can cross the border safely and efficiently. The implementation of the new European system will enhance security and contribute to more efficient management of passenger flows.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs highlights that the EES system will play a key role in modernizing border control, preventing illegal migration, and streamlining cross-border traffic.
