The Republic of Moldova and Romania continue to deepen their strategic security cooperation, building a sustainable partnership to protect citizens, ensure regional stability, and promote joint development. Confronted with complex challenges in the region, both countries reaffirm their commitment to act in a coordinated and responsible manner in addressing cross-border threats.
During an official visit to Chisinau, the delegation from the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Police Chief Bogdan Despescu, held substantive talks with Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin and the ministry team. Discussions focused on identifying common and innovative solutions to combat organized crime, maintain public order, and prevent cyberattacks.
Special attention was given to developing integrated mechanisms for monitoring and managing hybrid risks, including the illegal financing of political parties and the fight against disinformation campaigns that threaten democratic processes. To reinforce this cooperation, the General Inspectorate of Carabineri of the Republic of Moldova and the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
This strategic partnership creates broad opportunities for practical cooperation, including joint training, tactical exercises, and the exchanges of best practices to enhance the response capacity and resilience of law enforcement agencies. Bilateral efforts also focus on protecting critical infrastructure and implementing advanced risk management systems at the regional level.
A further priority is optimizing traffic flow at shared border crossing points, facilitating the free movement of people and goods, and enabling Moldovan citizens in Romania to exercise their voting rights more easily.
Through these coordinated initiatives, the Republic of Moldova and Romania reaffirm the European values and principles that unite them, while strengthening the security and prosperity of their communities. This strategic security partnership is emerging as a cornerstone in the process of European integration and sustainable regional development.
