Poland – a strategic partner of the Republic of Moldova for European integration and strengthening the EU’s eastern border

An official delegation from the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, undertook a strategic visit to the Republic of Poland today, July 28. This mission marks an important step in deepening bilateral dialogue at a critical moment in Moldova’s European integration journey, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in the field of home affairs and accelerating EU accession efforts.

The visit takes place in the broader context of implementing key strategic initiatives aimed at Moldova’s integration into the European Union, supported by Poland. Notably, Moldova continues to benefit from Poland’s pro-active engagement in securing its place on the EU’s priority agenda, evidenced by Moldova’s recent invitation to participate in the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council in Luxembourg and by concrete initiatives to strengthen critical infrastructure, national security and the EU’s eastern border.

During meetings with Polish senior officials, including Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski, and President of the Polish Solidarity Fund, Justyna Janiszewska, the future directions of strategic cooperation in the areas of internal affairs and security between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union were discussed.

Talks focused on expanding collaboration in key areas such as integrated border management, the prevention and combating of cross-border crime, the development of crisis response capabilities, personnel training within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the modernization of internal infrastructure and logistics.

"Now more than ever, Moldova needs Poland's expertise in countering hybrid threats, foreign interference and disinformation, especially in light of the parliamentary elections scheduled for this fall. Poland's support in strengthening our institutional and social resilience is vital to safeguarding democratic processes and ensuring internal security," stated Minister Misail Nichitin during her meetings with Polish officials.

In practical terms, Moldova benefits from direct support through joint initiatives and bilateral projects such as "EU4Moldova Resilience - secure state, resilient communities", funded by the European Commission and implemented by the Polish Solidarity Fund in cooperation with Polish authorities.

The EU4Border Security assistance program, launched in 2025, along with other training and equipment initiatives developed in partnership with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish Solidarity Fund, further exemplify this collaboration.

The partnership with Poland is delivering tangible results for Moldovan citizens, enhancing quality of life, strengthening internal security, increasing public trust and aligning the Ministry of Internal Affairs with European standards.

At the same time, the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs is committed to advancing effective cooperation with Poland in the following key areas:

Detecting, identifying and responding to hybrid threats and disinformation;

- Launching a bilateral peer-to-peer project focused on capacity building in hybrid threat response and crisis management, involving Polish national security experts;

- Conducting joint simulation exercises in the field of covert online investigations;

Strengthening collaboration with the Polish State Fire and Rescue Service through joint applications to European consortia and projects;

- Organizing regular joint simulation exercises for natural and technological disaster response, involving specialized teams from both countries, to enhance interoperability and response capacity;

- Exploring opportunities for General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations staff to pursue higher education at the Warsaw Fire Service Academy;

- Developing ongoing training programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to emergency call services (112).

The visit of the Moldovan delegation to Warsaw reaffirms Moldova’s strong commitment to advancing on the path of European integration and highlights Poland’s role as a key partner in this process.
