MIA - DCAF cooperation: projects for stronger governance and modern public services

International partnerships are essential for transforming public governance, driving greater performance and enhancing transparency of state institutions. The cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) is focused on building a more efficient, accountable and citizen-oriented security sector.

The recent meeting of the Steering Committee for the project "Strengthening Security Sector Governance in Moldova (SSGM 2023-2028)" marked a significant step in evaluating progress and defining future priorities. Supported by the Embassy of Sweden, the event highlighted the need for better institutional coordination and the importance of aligning each initiative with the real needs of citizens.

Thanks to the support of DCAF and the Swedish Embassy, the MIA has modernized its infrastructure by developing two key spaces dedicated for strategic planning and operational coordination. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, these facilities significantly enhance the Ministry’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to complex challenges and emergencies.

At the same time, ongoing training for MIA staff continues to raise the quality of public services. Programs focused on corruption prevention, crisis management and effective communication with citizens help employees respond more effectively to field requirements. The digital platform AcuityPPM, introduced for the first time within the MIA, enables clear project planning and monitoring, fostering transparency and more streamlined project management.

Collaboration with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) has further strengthened civil protection. Moldovan firefighters and rescuers have received specialized training and search and rescue teams will soon be equipped with tools that meet international standards.

Meanwhile, young students at the Stefan cel Mare Academy are actively engaged in initiatives that promote peace, gender equality and open governance. Their participation in workshops and projects equips them with the skills to build a safer and more inclusive society.

Investments in infrastructure, continuous training and modern technologies enhance the capacity of institutions to address today’s challenges. Strategic partnerships and well-defined objectives form the foundation for a safer, more cohesive and prosperous Moldova.
