Moldovan carabineers and police officers who, in the summer of 2024, took part in the first international security mission for Moldova during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris have been officially recognized by the French Embassy in Moldova for their professionalism and dedication.
This marks a historic milestone: for the first time, Moldova was present among international public order forces safeguarding the world’s largest sporting event. The Moldovan insignia, worn with pride, became a symbol of the country’s meaningful contribution, acknowledged on the global stage.
During the mission, Ministry of Internal Affairs officers patrolled public spaces, protected sensitive sites and took part in joint crime prevention efforts alongside colleagues from other countries.
Under the coordination of their French counterparts, our team contributed to securing the terminals at Charles de Gaulle Airport, facilitating smooth passenger flow and identifying suspicious behaviour, actively supporting efforts to combat crime and terrorism. Their presence helped strengthen security at key locations visited by tourists and official delegates.
"Moldova's participation in this prestigious event was a defining moment, reflecting our commitment to global security and the professionalism of our law enforcement agencies. It was also a valuable opportunity to exchange best practices, enhance operational capacity and build mutual trust between our institutions", said Minister of Internal Affairs Misail-Nichitin.
For her part, the French Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Dominique Waag, expressed her appreciation for the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to respond to this important call and praised the team’s active involvement in the joint efforts to ensure public safety:
"Through your unwavering dedication, composure in all situations, and strong sense of honour and duty, you made a vital contribution to the smooth running of this event. Your presence on the ground was noticed and appreciated by the French authorities. You represented your country with distinction, demonstrating the true meaning of discipline, efficiency and professionalism".
“In recognition of these merits, you will receive a certificate of appreciation from the French authorities. This honour symbolizes official recognition of your outstanding commitment”, the ambassador added.
Through this mission, Moldova has positioned itself as a capable and credible actor in international efforts to maintain public order. Our participation earned recognition and prestige abroad, reaffirming once again that Moldova can play an active role in global security and is a trustworthy partner on its path to European integration.
