29 May 2025 On-site investigations are the first step in uncovering the truth - and every detail matters. That is why the Ministry of Internal Affairs is committed to modernizing this crucial area in line with international practices. Today, State Secretary Alexandru Bejan took part in the Conference on the National Mechanism for On-Scene Investigation, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with financial support from Sweden. The event brought together representatives from law enforcement agencies, national and international experts, and development partners to explore opportunities for transforming Moldova’s criminal justice system. Discussions focused on the need for a unified approach to investigations. In this context, the official emphasized the importance of well-defined procedures to provide investigative teams with the guidance needed to act quickly and professionally, particularly in complex cases. The discussions underscored the value of international cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the importance of adhering to ISO standards - globally recognized guidelines that promote fairness and transparency in investigative processes. Participants also highlighted Sweden’s contribution in supporting best practices in forensic investigation and fostering cross-border collaboration. "By adopting these standards, Moldova is making a concrete step toward strengthening its justice system. We are transitioning from practices based on local customs to a framework aligned with international requirements. This is a natural and necessary move, especially as cross-border cooperation becomes increasingly vital and we are preparing for integration into the European Union" stated Alexandru Bejan, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
