Residents of six cities across the Republic of Moldova now enjoy stronger protection, thanks to firefighters and rescue teams armed with modern fire engines donated by the Government of Japan. The new vehicles are already in active service, helping crews save lives and limit damage during critical incidents - an important step forward in reinforcing Moldova’s national emergency response system.
This strategic investment directly benefits more than 1.3 million people in the north, centre and south of the country by enhancing the speed and effectiveness of first responders. The equipment included ten high-capacity trucks and nine modern tankers, all of which have already taken part in over 150 interventions. Deployed at key fire stations of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations based in Chisinau, Balti, Orhei, Cahul and other strategic localities, the vehicles ensure a wider coverage and faster response times for communities throughout Moldova.
"We are grateful for your continued support for the Republic of Moldova. We look forward with confidence to deepening this strategic partnership, which directly contributes to the safety of our citizens. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and together we are proving that we can build a safer, more resilient Moldova - better prepared for future challenges," said Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin during the ceremony organized by the Botanica Fire and Rescue Detachment.
The Moldovan-Japanese project “Improvement of fire prevention equipment”, funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), stands as a model of results-driven international cooperation. Through this initiative, Moldova is not only enhancing its emergency management capacity but also reinforcing its strategic partnership with Japan.
This investment in emergency response infrastructure delivers a dual impact: it safeguards the lives and property of citizens while boosting public trust in the country's ability to respond swiftly and effectively during crises. Initiatives like this demonstrate that Moldova has the determination, partners and resources to protect its people. Moldova can respond to challenges. Moldova can build a safer future.
