MIA-UNHCR dialogue: strengthening support for refugees and sustainable migration policies

Today, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Secretary of State Diana Salcuțan met with Frédéric Cussigh, the newly appointed UNHCR Deputy Representative in Moldova. The discussion focused on continuing institutional cooperation in the field of refugee protection.

The officials addressed joint actions to modernize the services of the General Inspectorate for Migration’s Accommodation Centre for Asylum Seekers and to improve integration mechanisms for individuals under protection in Moldova. A key priority was enhancing and expanding the registration procedures for beneficiaries of temporary protection, with an emphasis on inter-agency data exchange.

They also discussed steps needed to support the integration of displaced persons into the labour market and the development of a digital platform for updating data on those displaced from Ukraine.

State Secretary Salcuțan emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to support the implementation of sectoral programs in the fields of border management, migration and asylum. In response, Frédéric Cussigh reaffirmed UNHCR’s commitment to supporting the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs in developing sustainable, people-centred policies.
