Strengthened partnership with UNHCR to build a migration system aligned with European standards

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is deepening its partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to develop a sustainable migration management and refugee protection framework in Moldova.

In a recent meeting, State Secretary Diana Salcuțan and UNHCR Representative in Moldova Anne-Marie Deutschlander, discussed key developments in the field of migration and explored new directions for cooperation to benefit both institutions and better support people in vulnerable situations.

The discussions focused on the endorsement process of the integration program for foreigners in Moldova, which supports the authorities' efforts to build a coherent and effective system aligned with European Union standards. The UNHCR's role in ongoing training of personnel from the General Inspectorate for Migration and the Border Police was also highlighted.

Another key topic addressed was ensuring access to healthcare for foreigners entering the country, along with the provision of essential supplies for individuals in urgent need.

Secretary of State Diana Salcuțan emphasized that temporary protection remains a priority for Moldova. She noted that upgrading the migration information system plays a critical role in ensuring efficient and secure management of data related to foreigners on national territory. In this context, close cooperation with UNHCR continues to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and contributes to the development of a migration system capable of meeting both current and future challenges.
