Moldova-Japan partnership: bilateral meeting at Ministry of Internal Affairs

Japan's support in enhancing Moldova's emergency response capacities, addressing emerging threats, and managing the refugee crisis was among the topics of discussion between Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin and Yamada Yoichiro, Ambassador of Japan to Moldova.

The discussion highlighted the importance of cooperation with Japan in emergency management. In this context, the modernization of equipment for the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations helps reduce response and intervention times. This not only enhances citizen protection but also ensures greater safety for firefighters and rescuers. Additionally, the need to continue public awareness campaigns to foster a culture of risk prevention and responsible behaviour, ultimately mitigating the impact of emergencies, was emphasized.

The officials also discussed the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ participation in the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network Seventh Capital-Level Meeting, set to take place in Tokyo from February 4 and 6, 2025. The event will bring together over 100 representatives from Member States and regional organizations, providing a platform to promote women's involvement and role in conflict prevention and management and peacebuilding in line with the UN Resolution 1325.

While in Tokyo, the Moldovan delegation will hold bilateral meetings with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JIKA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and other key partners to strengthen cooperation on disaster resilience and crisis response.

Minister Misail-Nichitin reaffirmed that Japan is a reliable partner in Moldova’s European integration endeavour, emphasizing that both countries share common values of democracy, rule of law and human rights.
