On November 29, 2024, Minister of Interior Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin met with Daniela DiPierro, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, accompanied by a delegation of U.S. officials.
The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the United States, with an emphasis on MIA's key development and modernization priorities. These priorities include digitization and modernization of MIA services to improve operational mobility and ensure a stronger presence within communities; equipping MIA’s special intervention teams with state-of-the-art tools for effective emergency response, and strengthening law enforcement capabilities in cybersecurity to address evolving digital threats.
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the recent referendum and elections, the Minister underscored the importance of preventing electoral corruption and illegal financing. She emphasized need to enhance police capacity to address the increasingly sophisticated methods used to commit such crimes, highlighting the critical role of proactive support from development partners.
In light of current regional challenges, the Minister also noted that the Republic of Moldova is actively developing contingency plans to ensure a rapid and effective response to potential crises while maintaining the continuity of essential public services for citizens.
The partnership between the United States and the Republic of Moldova remains crucial in strengthening the country’s internal security framework. U.S. support, particularly in enhancing law enforcement mobility and implementing the national TETRA communications system, is vital for protecting Moldova’s critical infrastructure.
Both parties expressed their commitment to continuing this strategic partnership, aiming to position Moldova as a pillar of stability in the region.
