21 August 2024 Chisinau, August 21, 2024 - State Secretary Mariana Lucreteanu met with H.E. Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The primary focus of their discussion was the upcoming meeting of Senior Officials for the 15th anniversary of the Prague Process, scheduled to take place in Chisinau on September 24-25, 2024. During the meeting, State Secretary Lucreteanu expressed gratitude to Romania for its continuous support of Moldova’s European integration efforts, highlighting the significance of commencing accession negotiations with the European Union (EU). She reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to implementing the acquis communautaire and strengthening its institutional capacity for EU accession. The discussion also emphasized the crucial role of European institutions in supporting initiatives that enhance security, develop infrastructure and improve living conditions in Moldova. Additionally, the participants were briefed on the new draft law on the admission, stay and supervision of foreigners in Moldova, which is currently being drafted to align national legislation with European standards. In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, Mrs. Lucrețeanu reiterated Moldova's commitment to continue hosting and protecting Ukrainian refugees, stressing the implementation of the temporary protection regime and the efforts to integrate them into Moldovan society. Regarding the organization of the Senior Officials' meeting for the Prague Process anniversary, which will bring together high-level decision-makers and representatives from partner organizations, the officials discussed the importance of this event in determining the key developments in migration policy at national and regional levels since the establishment of the Prague Process in 2009. The participating states will reflect on the role of the Prague Process, address the operational challenges and set priorities for further implementation of the 2023-2027 Action Plan. Ambassador Cristian-Leon Țurcanu commended Moldova’s efforts in organizing this regionally significant event and reaffirmed Romania's openness to continue the close cooperation in this area.
