Today, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had a meeting with Lena Dupont, a Member of the European Parliament.
The discussions focused on Moldova's path toward European Union integration, particularly the ongoing development and reform efforts. Key issues such as security challenges, external interference and cybercrime were addressed, alongside progress in negotiations for Moldova's EU accession. In this context, the Ministry of Internal Affairs plays an important role in Chapter 24, which covers justice, freedom, and security, aiming to align national legislation with EU standards and strengthen institutional capacities to meet European integration requirements.
The Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized the significance of collaboration with European partners in addressing the security challenges facing Moldova, including disinformation and cyber-attacks. The staff of the Ministry’s subdivisions have benefited from specialized international training in cybersecurity and combating online abuses, thereby enhancing the operational capacities of the MIA.
Adrian Efros also noted that the Ministry is working on a new draft law on the admission, stay, and supervision of foreigners, designed to align Moldovan legislation with EU standards. Additionally, the Ministry remains committed to supporting Ukrainian refugees by providing temporary protection, ensuring a stable legal status, and maintaining access to socio-economic services.
The meeting highlighted the importance of international cooperation and reiterated MIA’s commitment to advancing Moldova’s integration with the European Union. Efforts to strengthen internal and regional security, combat cybercrime, and manage migration effectively will continue to be high on the Ministry's agenda.
