MIA and INL: Collaborating for a secure future in Moldova

 

Daniella Misail-Nichitin, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, met with representatives from the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Section (INL) of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. The delegation led by Bryan Schubert, INL Director, also included the Border Security Advisor and Law Enforcement Program Coordinators.
 

The discussions focused on strengthening Moldova’s law enforcement infrastructure and capabilities, with particular attention to border security, enhanced actions to prevent and combat drug trafficking and prevention of gender-based violence. Key topics included the needs for launching new assistance projects to support MIA’s development agenda and reviewing progress on ongoing projects aimed at addressing gender-based violence.
 

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting women in law enforcement, emphasizing the need to increase the representation of women, including in leadership roles in law enforcement institutions.
 

Secretary of State Misail-Nichitin highlighted the crucial role of US support in the ongoing development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. She expressed gratitude for the successful modernization programs implemented in areas such as border management, cybercrime and women's leadership in law enforcement.
 

The meeting concluded with both sides underscoring the importance of continued collaboration between the United States and our country to enhance the effectiveness of the country’s law enforcement institutions. The parties committed to ongoing cooperation on projects aimed at improving public safety, countering emerging threats and strengthening the overall security situation in Moldova.
