Citizens and transport operators will soon benefit from faster, safer, and more comfortable travel through the Fălciu - Cantemir border crossing. In Bucharest, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, together with Romania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, signed an agreement to implement coordinated control at this railway crossing point.
This marks the first time coordinated control will be applied at a railway border point in both directions. This will reduce waiting times, eliminate queues, and streamline formalities for travellers and businesses, boosting cross-border trade and exports. At the same time, the authorities of both countries are strengthening cooperation to further enhance border security.
The reopening of the Fălciu - Cantemir railway junction carries strategic importance, as it forms part of the European Union's Solidarity Lanes initiative and strengthens Moldova’s connection to the wider European transport network.
During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed cooperation in the fields of police and border security, agreeing on measures to improve the efficiency of law enforcement authorities in addressing regional security challenges. The signing of this agreement represents a significant step in consolidating the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Romania and in bringing citizens closer to the European community.
