Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs: among partners and friends at the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council

The Republic of Moldova is strengthening its European partnerships to offer citizens greater security, enhanced mobility and improved access to quality services. This week, a delegation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), led by Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, is participating in the Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA) of the European Union, held in Luxembourg, alongside EU Member States.

At the invitation of the Polish Presidency, the interior ministers of the Member States, as well as representatives of the Council and European agencies, had the opportunity to hear firsthand abound Moldova’s latest achievements and challenges. Minister Misail-Nichitin presented the country’s efforts to bolster internal and regional security, including the continued operation of an integrated incident and risk response system, the response to hybrid threats in public order and criminal justice, and the preventing and combating of organized crime.

All Member States that spoke following Moldova's presentation commended the expertise of Moldovan professionals and the willingness of national institutions to share lessons learned with European partners.

In addition, Minister Misail-Nichitin held bilateral meetings with the Interior Ministers of France, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Austria, Sweden, as well as with the State Secretary of the German Interior Ministry. She also had a substantive dialog with Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration.

Discussions focused on practical solutions with direct impact for citizens: training police officers in modern technologies, combating cybercrime, digitization of public services, enhancing support for equipping and training emergency responders, cooperation on witness protection, countering disinformation and securing critical infrastructure. Additional support was expressed for strengthening emergency response capabilities and improving border management, including through advanced identification systems and canine units.

Minister Misail-Nichitin also met with the Executive Director of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to explore the expansion of operational cooperation and a stronger Frontex presence in the Republic of Moldova.

The open dialogue with European counterparts underscored strong support for Moldova’s European path and reaffirmed confidence in the professionalism and dedication of the country’s home affairs institutions.
