Moldova and Belgium strengthen cooperation on combating illegal migration and enhancing border security

State Secretary of the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs, Diana Salcuțan, held a meeting with Anneleen Van Bossuyt, Minister for Asylum, Migration, Integration and Urban Policy of the Kingdom of Belgium.

The discussion focused on preventing illegal migration and deepening Moldovan-Belgian cooperation in this area.

The officials explored the possibility of organizing joint initiatives aimed at deterring illegal migration and protecting potential migrants from the risks of human trafficking or irregular stay. They also discussed a potential visit by MIA representatives to the Belgian Immigration Office to learn from the experience and good practices of the Belgian counterparts.

The Belgian side expressed readiness to support Moldova in assessing and aligning its national legislation with the EU standards.

Improved information exchange between countries will contribute to more effective border management and a stronger response to illegal migration. These efforts will enhance citizen safety and strengthen institutional capacity in areas of security, migration management and border control.
