Citizens across the north, center and south of the country will soon benefit from faster and safer emergency services, thanks to support from the Government of Japan. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) has received 19 state-of-the-art fire engines, which will be deployed to its units across the country.
These modern vehicles will help reduce emergency response times and enhance the operational capacity of firefighters and rescue teams. With their advanced capabilities, the new trucks will allow crews to respond more quickly and efficiently to emergencies.
The official handover ceremony took place in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau in the presence of the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Ambassador of Japan to Moldova, His Excellency Yamada Yoichiro, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, the representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tanaka Kotaro, and the IGSU leadership, represented by Colonel Alexandru Oprea.
During the event, officials highlighted the importance of strengthening the Moldovan-Japanese partnership and its impact on citizen safety and protection. They also underscored the critical role these new vehicles will play in enhancing the efficiency of emergency interventions and contributing to a safer environment for the population.
The delivery of 19 modern fire engines to IGSU marks a significant step towards modernizing Moldova’s emergency services and aligning them with European standards. In addition to the fire vehicles, Japanese experts provided specialized training for firefighters and rescuers, to ensure their optimal use and maintenance.
Also marking Rescuer Day, Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs met with Tanaka Kotaro, Senior Deputy Director General, Head of the Office for Ukraine Crisis Response, Recovery and Reconstruction at JICA. Their discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of Japan, including in fire prevention and advancing monitoring and rapid response technologies.
