New opportunities for European security cooperation

Moldova is strengthening its European law enforcement cooperation by signing a collaboration agreement with the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) in Budapest.

This strategic partnership will enable Moldovan officers to train to European standards, improving law enforcement effectiveness and enhancing public safety. A tangible outcome of this collaboration is the inauguration of the Cyber Lab in January 2025, developed through the EU4Security Moldova project, which supports the fight against cybercrime.

During her official visit to Budapest, Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, held several meetings with senior European officials. Together with Beate Gminder, Acting Director General of DG HOME at the European Commission, the Moldovan delegation discussed progress in the implementation of reforms in the field of justice and security.

Discussions with Scott Donovan, Director of the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), cantered on expanding training programs for Moldovan officers, while talks with István Jakab, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, highlighted Hungary's support for Moldova's European integration process.

A key moment during the visit was the signing of the Annual Action Plan between the Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin and her Hungarian counterpart, Sándor Pintér. The plan outlines shared priorities in crucial areas such as public security, emergency management, combating crime and border management, with a particular emphasis on advancing information technologies and preventing corruption.

Through this visit, Moldova is further strengthening its strategic partnerships and contributing to regional security by modernizing its law enforcement structures, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
