Moldova enhances security and cooperation with the European Union at the Munich Conference

At the Munich Security Conference, the delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, held strategic discussions with European officials on Moldova's path to EU integration, strengthening national security, digital resilience and deepening cooperation with the European Union. Key topics included progress of European integration efforts, the current stage of the Roadmap and Moldova's ongoing work to align its law enforcement institutions with European standards.

During discussions with Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, Moldova’s participation in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism was highlighted. This mechanism provides support during crises, exemplified by the deployment of Moldovan firefighters to Greece, where they demonstrated their readiness and capacity to respond to natural disasters. Additionally, the meeting addressed progress in implementing the Istanbul Convention and the ministry’s role in coordinating the Women, Peace and Security agenda – an initiative focused on protecting vulnerable groups and improving refugee management.

Discussions with Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE, focused on strengthening Moldova's cyber resilience in response to growing hybrid threats and foreign interference. The adoption of advanced digital solutions to protect national infrastructure, along with enhanced cooperation with European agencies, such as EU LISA, is crucial for border security and migration management.

In a meeting with Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, discussions covered Moldova's EU accession agenda, particularly Chapter 24 "Justice, Freedom, and Security", as well as the European Commission's report following last year’s explanatory screening sessions in Brussels. The Commissioner also expressed interest in mechanisms to accelerate Moldova’s integration into the EU.

As a result of these meetings, Moldova is committed to deepening cooperation with European institutions to integrate into common security frameworks, modernize digital infrastructure, strengthen cyber defences and expand efforts to combat organized crime.
