31 January 2025 As of today, law enforcement in the Republic of Moldova has a new cybercrime laboratory, significantly strengthening the country’s ability to prevent, investigate and combat cyber threats. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the facility will enhance digital investigations by providing advanced tools and specialized expertise. Officers from the General Police Inspectorate will now be able to analyse and respond to cyber threats in real time, ensuring greater protection of Moldova’s digital space. The laboratory will also support rapid collection, analysis and use of digital evidence, enabling faster identification of cybercriminals. Additionally, forensic experts will benefit from ongoing training programs. Using realistic simulations, they will learn how to detect and counter cyber-attacks, preparing for complex scenarios that could impact the country's digital infrastructure. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, specialists will also have the capability to test security measures in a controlled environment. Moreover, enhancing the technical capabilities of law enforcement will facilitate the exchange of information and expertise with counterparts in the European Union and other partner states, strengthening the fight against cross-border crime. The laboratory was established and equipped with financial support from the European Union under the EU4Security Moldova project, implemented by CEPOL. With its launch, the Technical-Criminalistic and Forensic Expertise Centre is expanding its capacity to investigate cyber incidents and identify critical vulnerabilities. This marks a significant step for the Republic of Moldova in aligning with European standards.
