Regional cooperation in action: insights and best practices from the Green Corridor exercise

To ensure they are always prepared to assist those in need, security forces regularly participate in practical exercises designed to enhance rapid response capabilities and integrate new tactics for greater effectiveness.

One such multinational exercise, the ”Green Corridor”, was held from January 22 to 24, 2025. Organized by the Operational Management Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the exercise simulated procedures for the safe transit of refugees along international routes in order to be able to address humanitarian challenges.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin stated, “The insights gained over these three days will be incorporated into future strategies, strengthening the resilience and efficiency of our interventions.”

“It is crucial to first present the concepts we have worked on and identify areas where plans can be improved,” emphasized Raed Arafat, Secretary of State for Emergencies at the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

A total of 80 representatives from ministries and humanitarian organizations in the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Poland worked together as part of a joint team. Together, they exchanged best practices and experiences, ultimately enhancing inter-institutional coordination. The team identified strategies to improve response speed and efficiency in fields related to logistics, humanitarian assistance and protection of refugee rights.
