New rescue and fire station opens in Dondușeni

To ensure fast, efficient and high-quality services for citizens in northern Moldova, a new rescue and fire station was inaugurated today in the city of Dondușeni.

This investment will benefit over 39,000 residents from 30 localities in Dondușeni district and the city itself, providing rapid response services in cases of fires and other emergencies. The facility is modern and well-equipped, with workspaces, bays for specialized vehicles, conference and training rooms, as well as state-of-the-art equipment. The Dondușeni station is the 15th facility inaugurated with the support of the U.S. Government and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. Two additional modern units are scheduled to open later this year in Căinari and Ocnița.

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, attended the event and highlighted the significance of the project: "This unit is energy-independent, with 95% of its energy needs met through renewable sources. It serves as an example for many institutions across the country. As we face all kinds of emergency situations and natural disasters, both at home and globally, it is vital to strengthen our rescue and assistance services for citizens."

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniela Misail-Nichitin, also emphasized the station’s importance: "Achieving energy independence here makes Donduseni facility a symbol of freedom and independence. It shows that we can rely on our own capabilities to progress without being vulnerable to threats or blackmail over energy. This gives us hope and motivation to fully implement the national energy independence plan as quickly as possible. It represents resilience, determination and our commitment to building a better, self-determined future for our country."

The event was also attended by Daniela DiPierro, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, who stated: "The United States is proud to have provided financial support for the construction of this new facility, which will enhance the skills and readiness of intervention personnel in Dondușeni as they carry out their mission to protect the community."

The facility was constructed as part of the U.S. Assistance Program, with financial support from the American people amounting to 913,700 USD for the facility alone. Additionally, the Moldovan Government allocated 1.8 million MDL for its construction. Through the U.S. Assistance Program, a "Mobile Command Post" vehicle valued at 688,000 USD and equipment worth 200,000 USD were also procured.

During the inauguration ceremony, a demonstration exercise was held, showcasing the capabilities of the "Mobile Command Post" vehicle donated by the United States.
