The General Inspectorate of the Border Police has successfully completed the strategic initiative "Development of the air monitoring unit within the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova". This project was implemented with the support of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through GS Foundation.
Running from 2023 to 2024, the project had a budget exceeding EUR 1.7 million and aimed to modernize Moldova’s border aerial surveillance capabilities. This initiative has significantly bolstered national security by deploying cutting-edge technology (advanced drones, anti-drone systems and high-performance IT equipment), upgrading Coordination Centres and training over 200 employees in drone operation, use of anti-drone systems and management of coordination centers.
These achievements enable more effective border monitoring and quicker responses to incidents, helping to prevent illegal migration, fight against cross-border crime and manage emergency situations.
The closing event was attended by Mariana Lucrețeanu, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Ruslan Galușca, Head of the Border Police. The officials emphasized the importance of international support and the positive impact of the project.
This initiative represents an important step in aligning Border Police’s capabilities with European standards while paving the way for enhanced regional and international cooperation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Inspectorate of the Border Police extend their gratitude to the German Government and GS Foundation for their support, without which this project would not have been possible.
