The cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in 2025 will accelerate digital modernization, enhance border security and improve the protection of vulnerable persons. These priorities were established during a bilateral meeting between Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin and Ester Ruiz de Azua, IOM Head of Mission in the Republic of Moldova.
Discussions focused on concrete measures to modernize the General Inspectorate for Migration, including advancing digital solutions to better manage refugee flows.
Another key topic discussed was strengthening border security through the full operationalization of the Passenger Name Record (PNR) system, a tool for preventing and combating cross-border crime. The meeting also addressed enhancing the capacities of the General Police Inspectorate to counter misinformation and manipulation by criminal networks.
The protection of women, children and other vulnerable groups remains a shared priority. In this sense, the Women's Justice Centre (WJC) project was highlighted as a successful example of effective collaboration.
Additionally, the need to improve medical services for MIA employees to support their health and readiness to effectively support the communities was also addressed.
By pursuing these strategic objectives, MIA and IOM aim to develop a more modern, secure and equitable internal affairs system capable of responding to diverse challenges.
