Moldova and Ukraine join efforts against human trafficking and illegal migration

On December 3 and 4, 2024 the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs is hosting a bilateral Moldovan-Ukrainian workshop focusing on combating human trafficking and illegal migration.

The event brings together key officials from Moldova, including representatives from the National Police, Border Police, Carabineers and the Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service, alongside delegates from Ukraine, such as representatives from the National Police from Kyiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions, and prosecutors from the Prosecutor General's Office of both countries.

The workshop focuses on establishing bilateral task forces and exchanging best practices to strengthen joint efforts against trafficking in human beings and illegal migration, while addressing the risks posed by cross-border crime. Participants are analysing the current situation in Moldova and Ukraine, exploring trends, victim and trafficker profiles, exploitation methods, and gaps in cross-border cooperation. Discussions also cover emerging threats, such as the use of online platforms for recruitment and exploitation, and the adoption of digital solutions for investigating these crimes.

In line with the National Security Strategy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to build international partnerships, enhance measures to protect vulnerable persons and improve the efficiency of efforts to combat irregular migration and cross-border crime.
