Brussels, December 2, 2024 - The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova participated in the 8th meeting of the Republic of Moldova - European Union Association Committee, held in Brussels, Belgium. The event gathered high-ranking officials from both the European Union and Moldova to review progress and strengthen strategic dialog in the context of Moldova’s European integration.
During the discussions, Andrei Cecoltan, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, emphasized the progress achieved by Moldova in combating organized crime and other illegal activities, improving mobility and migration management, and enhancing civil protection.
Regarding the fight against organized crime, the discussion highlighted the strengthened cooperation with Europol and Moldova’s active participation in European initiatives such as EMPACT and CEPOL. These collaborations have facilitated important operations delivering essential results for the internal affairs system. The crucial role of the EU Security Hub in implementing effective measures was also emphasized, along with efforts to align Moldovan national regulatory framework with European standards.
In the area of mobility and migration, Andrei Cecoltan underscored the adoption of regulations extending temporary protection for vulnerable persons and outlined upcoming measures to enhance integrated border management. He also presented strategic initiatives and policy documents currently under development, aimed at optimizing this sector.
In terms of civil protection, the discussion emphasized the importance of Moldova's participation in the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism and the implementation of projects aimed at enhancing climate resilience and disaster risk management. A key example is the MD-Alert early warning system, which will improve the country's capacity to respond promptly to emergencies.
The participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in this meeting underscored Moldova’s efforts to advance with European integration through implementation of essential reforms and strengthened cooperation with European Union partners.
