MIA - UNICEF dialogue on cooperation prospects

 

Secretary of State Daniella Misail-Nichitin met with Traian Turcanu, UNICEF Moldova representative to discuss the implementation of the 2023-2024 Action Plan under the cooperation agreement concluded for the first time between the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and UNICEF. The meeting also explored potential collaboration for 2025, with a view to further expanding this partnership.

At the outset of the meeting, Secretary of State Misail-Nichitin expressed her appreciation for UNICEF’s ongoing support over the years, particularly for managing the refugee crisis at border crossings. She also acknowledged UNICEF’s contribution to the Security School of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which helps citizens learn how to respond in emergencies and administer first aid. Additionally, she emphasized the joint campaigns with the General Police Inspectorate focused on traffic safety, especially in areas near schools.

The discussions highlighted the importance of raising awareness about online sexual abuse and the need to strengthen the response of multidisciplinary teams to handling such cases. The possibility of supporting the implementation of the Set of Measures to implement the recommendations of the Lanzarote Committee on the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse for the period 2025-2026 was also explored.

Another key issue addressed was ensuring that child victims are protected and heard in appropriate conditions, along with expansion of specialized services and increasing the availability of experts at community level. The possibility of modernizing the MIA Center for Children Recreation in Vadul-lui-Voda was also discussed, to enhance the conditions for child-focused activities.


This meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UNICEF to safeguarding the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable groups through concrete actions.
