The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs met with a delegation from the Defense, Public Order and National Security Committee of the Romanian Senate, led by Committee Chair Nicoleta Pauliuc.
Discussions centered on the bilateral cooperation agenda regarding security, defense and public order, as well as the joint efforts to combat hybrid threats within the framework of the EU Security HUB and our country's aspirations for European integration.
"We extend our gratitude to Romania for promoting the values of the Republic of Moldova, particularly for its continuous support in our country’s European integration journey. Romania stands as a reliable friend of the Republic of Moldova, and our cooperation is crucial for enhancing security and stability in the region", said Adrian Efros.
According to Senator Nicoleta Pauliuc, Moldova is a reliable ally of Romania. She acknowledged the progress our country has made in internal processes towards democracy and integration into the big European family.
"Together we have made historic decisions. This marks a significant milestone and I congratulate Moldova for opening negotiations for EU membership. Moldova is coming back home, embraced by the European Union, where we belong together", she added.
The parties addressed the significance of intensifying bilateral dialogue in the context of the process of assessing the alignment of the national legislation with EU legislation and the importance of the pre-accession phase. They emphasized the necessity for allocating human resources for the screening exercise and transposition of EU directives.
The officials also discussed the usefulness of the Security Hub in implementing the 3C principle (communication, coordination and cooperation), a fundamental element of the National Security Strategy influencing the EU security landscape in the Eastern European Security Belt. The Romanian delegation assured of their openness to contribute to knowledge exchange and building human resources in this process.
Another crucial topic raised related to the strategies and techniques to combat online child exploitation. The Moldovan side acknowledged Senator Nicoleta Pauliuc's input to drafting the bill for online child protection and that implementing a similar bill within the national legislative framework would significantly enhance the legal infrastructure for safeguarding children online.
Furthermore, the officials highlighted the role of the national mechanism for reporting child sexual abuse content as an indicator of aligning national practices with European standards for sexual abuse reporting services.
In conclusion, the parties agreed to reinforce cooperation to advance European integration efforts and ensure effective implementation of reforms in the Republic of Moldova for the benefit of its citizens.
