From opportunities to real impact: women – pillars of peace and sustainable security

More than 150 government leaders, international experts, and civil society and academia representatives are gathering for two days in Chișinău for the international conference “Women for Security – From Opportunities to Real Impact: Advancing the Role of Women in Peace and Security Processes for the Next 25 Years”.

The event will highlight how women’s engagement transforms communities, strengthens social and institutional resilience, and contributes to building a sustainable climate of peace and security.

The conference marks a double anniversary - 25 years since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and 30 years since the Beijing Declaration - milestones that demonstrate that women are not only beneficiaries of peace, but also creators of change and promoters of a safer and more equitable world.

During the two conference days, participants will discuss the evolution of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and how international commitments can be translated into concrete actions with direct benefits for people. The first day will spotlight women’s leadership 25 years after the adoption of Resolution 1325, as well as efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, exchange good practices, and share lessons learned for the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. Discussions will also address crisis preparedness and enhancing resilience through inclusive, collaborative, and gender-sensitive approaches.

The second day will focus on inclusive solutions for crisis management and the protection of human lives. Participants will explore ways to integrate a gender perspective into conflict prevention and early warning systems, with an emphasis on preventing gender-based violence and strengthening peacebuilding. Central to the discussions will be the power of negotiation, the voices of resilience from the frontlines, and the essential role of women as key actors in maintaining balance and peace within communities.

“Women for Security” reflects Moldova’s determination to promote gender equality, strengthen democratic institutions, and harness the potential of women in the fields of peace, security, and sustainable development.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in partnership with UN Women, the European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM), the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), and the GS Foundation, with financial support from Sweden and Denmark.
