7 November 2025 The extension of temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine was among the main topics discussed between the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The meeting, chaired by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Diana Salcuțan, aimed to identify the most appropriate mechanisms for implementing the European Union’s Decision and ensuring the continuity of the protection framework for displaced persons. In this context, Moldova intends to extend temporary protection in order to align with the EU Decision and maintain a coherent support system, considering its proximity to the neighboring country and Moldova’s active role in properly managing migration flows and determining the legal status of displaced persons on its territory. The discussions also addressed the needs related to the development of mechanisms for implementing the EU Decision on extending temporary protection. UNHCR representatives expressed their openness to continue supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by providing expertise and technical assistance to ensure the effective application of protection measures. Together with its development partners, Moldova remains committed to offering protection and support to displaced persons from Ukraine, in the spirit of solidarity and respect for human dignity.
