Ministry of Internal Affairs contributes to the localization of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), as the national coordinator for the implementation of the National program on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), is actively engaged, together with civil society organizations, in advancing the localization of the WPS Agenda in Moldova.

Field activities and dialogue with representatives of security and defense authorities are guided by the conviction that sustainable change is built from the ground up, alongside those working on the front lines. These professionals understand the realities on the ground better than anyone and experience, day by day, the importance of ensuring the equal participation of women and men in security and defense sector. For them, Resolution 1325, the National Action Plan, and related policy frameworks are no longer mere recommendations, but practical tools that drive meaningful change.

On February 16, discussions held in Cahul on the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda reaffirmed participants' strong interest and openness to continued dialogue. There was a shared willingness to examine challenges, assess progress, and identify practical solutions to steadily strengthen a society in which the equal participation of women and men, including in the security and defense sector, is fully realized.

"We discussed policy documents, strategies, and institutional commitments, but real change is reflected in our concrete actions. For this reason, I encourage each of us to consider how we can contribute to the implementation of Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security," emphasized Cornelia Ursu, representative of the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Resolution 1325 is particularly relevant for the Republic of Moldova given its complex geopolitical context. In this context, promoting women's participation in peace processes, strengthening security, and safeguarding human rights are essential priorities.

The National Program for the implementation of Resolution 1325 is implemented by the authorities in the security and defense sector, in cooperation with civil society and development partners, under the coordination of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Each of us can contribute to advancing the WPS Agenda by fostering a culture of equality, supporting women in the security and defence sector, and challenging stereotypes, thereby helping to build a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.
