The Ministry of Internal Affairs is accelerating the modernization of state border surveillance and control technologies, with citizen safety as its top priority. In this context, Secretary of State, Diana Salcuțan, together with the Head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, Questor Ruslan Galușca, undertook a working visit to the Vulcănești Border Police Sector.
During the visit, they assessed the performance of the new fixed surveillance systems deployed in the region and considered their expansion along the entire border segment. In 2025, to enhance surveillance capacities, the General Inspectorate of the Border Police purchased eight modern thermal imaging systems.
“Modernizing surveillance systems at the state border is an important step in strengthening citizens’ safety. At the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we invest in technologies that enable police officers to respond more quickly and better protect the country and its people,” stated Secretary of State Diana Salcuțan.
In turn, the Head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, Ruslan Galușca, highlighted the role of advanced technologies in transforming border monitoring:
“The fixed observation systems provide border police officers with highly precise, real-time visibility, even under low-visibility conditions. They can automatically identify a target and distinguish whether it is an animal, a vehicle, or a person, significantly reducing response time in critical situations. Essentially, we are moving from traditional surveillance to an intelligent mechanism capable of anticipating and signalling risks before they turn into incidents”.
Using these high-performance systems makes interventions faster and significantly reduces the risks of illegal crossings or other criminal activities. For citizens, this translates into a safer border, a more predictable environment, and greater protection for the communities located near the border.
In discussions with the staff of the Vulcănești Border Police Sector, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Inspectorate of the Border Police highlighted the specific challenges of the area, as well as the benefits of the new technologies in preventing incidents and improving response times.
The modernization and expansion of the fixed surveillance system represent an essential step toward transforming the Border Police into a modern, digitized structure focused on protecting citizens. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Inspectorate of the Border Police will continue to invest in smart solutions that strengthen national security and contribute to a safe environment for all citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
