Residents of Scoreni and nearby communities now have one more reason to feel protected. The territorial unit for volunteer firefighters and rescuers has been inaugurated - a project that brings emergency response closer to the people and reduces reaction time in critical situations. It is an investment that saves time, but above all, saves lives.
The event was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, the leadership of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), representatives of local public authorities, newly trained volunteers, and development partners who made this project possible. The central message shared by all was clear: community safety starts with dedicated people and infrastructure tailored to their needs.
Here, ten volunteer firefighters - members of the community, thoroughly trained by IGSU instructors, will be on duty, ready to intervene in case of fires, accidents, or other emergency situations. They represent the first line of response until professional crews arrive, and their skills in fire suppression, first aid, and rescue operations are a vital resource for the surrounding localities.
The post will serve four localities in the Strășeni and Ialoveni districts: Scoreni, Nimoreni, Malcoci, and Condrița, each with different geographic characteristics, ranging from forests and agricultural land to protected areas. This highlights just how valuable it is to have a team capable of responding quickly to any type of scenario.
Over the past three years, these localities have registered around 90 interventions, most of them vegetation fires. With the operationalization of this unit, nearly seven thousand people will benefit from greater safety and prompt intervention whenever needed.
The new station was built from scratch with financial support from the European Union, the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, and contributions from local authorities.
The Scoreni volunteer firefighter unit is the 23rd of this kind across the country and joins the 82 existing territorial units, strengthening the Moldova’s capacity to respond effectively to risk situations.
